Getting T-boned by a red light runner can be a serious bummer, not to mention way dangerous, but a group of engineers at the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology are working on a smart traffic light that will delay traffic signals if someone runs a red light.
According to an article in Business Week:
I wonder if rather than deterring people from breaking the law, if more drivers will take the risk of running a red because they know they won't put anyone in harms way. I also wonder if this system will only be able to read cars that are running a red, but not say, motorcyclists or even bicyclists.
