ThethingThere are plenty "of the month" subscriptions to choose from -- cheese, fruit, t-shirt -- but limited run artworks are not that easy to find. A new quarterly, called The Thing invites four artists, writers, musicians, or filmmakers a year to create an everyday object that somehow incorporates text. The object is reproduced, mostly by hand, and wrapped in brown paper packaging and mailed to subscribers.

Filmmaker, writer, and performance artist Miranda July is the first to participate, creating window blinds painted with the phrases such as, "If this shade is down, I'm not who you think I am" and "If this shade is down, I'm begging your forgiveness on bended knee with tears streaming down my face." You can check out the process of making these one-of-a-kind works here.

Subscriptions cost $120 for the year + $40 for shipping of all four projects.
