Our multi-vowel surnames are constantly butchered in classrooms, by telemarketers, and even editors (I can't tell you how many times a story of mine has been published only to have my last name completely muddled). But blow the prez and your last name is forever spell checked.

My Thunderbird email app is set to check for spelling mistakes before sending out my mail. Well, every time I reply to someone's email I can't help but chuckle when Thunderbird queries my last name, asking if I meant to write "Lewinsky" rather than "Zjawinski". Man, it's been a decade since the "scandals" but this chick gets her last name in spell check? What do I need to do to get my name in there? No, don't even say it. Never going to happen.
