Sony might not be selling as many PS3s as it might like, but the company continues to push into the living room with the PlayTV, a dual tuner, Hi-def DVR for the Playstation 3. The add-on will pull in over-the-air HDTV programming, record it to the PS3's hard drive and, best of all, allow you to stream the recordings to your Playstation portable.
As always with Sony, though, there's a catch. At launch (and for the foreseeable future), the PlayTV will be Europe-only. Europe and the US use different systems to deliver over-the-air digital TV, and Sony has chosen to support only DVBT (Digital Video Broadcasting - Terrestrial) and not the ATSC (Advanced Television Systems Committee) standard used in the US (and South Korea).
If the US does get a nationwide, over-the-air digital broadcasts, then Sony will take another look, but right now this is just more sweet revenge for us iPhone-less Europeans.
