Bond-Style Firepower For Urban Ops

I think I’d file this one under the heading of Big Boys Toys: an SUV with a pop-up minigun installation coutesy of Dillon Aero. This type of weapon certainly has its uses, but low-profile urban escort for motorcades is not one of them. Putting out 4,200 rounds a minute is fine for suppressive fire in a combat situation, but it’s not something you’d want in a presumably friendly city environment (unless maybe you’re firing those non-lethal laughing bullets?)

The tinted windows look nice and presidential, but did they have to pimp their SUV with those flashing LEDs on the front?

But they might have some customers. Last year Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory announced that they were buying an undiscolosed number of the weapons from Dillon Aero to defend installations, "some mounted on vehicles and others at undisclosed fixed locations." It’s not known if this included any of the pop-up version. The concealed mount would mean that patrol vehicles fitted with these can keep a low profile while packing considerable firepower…but I’m not sure if this is a matter of looks over practicality.
