Despite having some truly superb actors in its cast, the Super Mario Bros. movie is incredibly painful to watch--almost as painful as it was to make.

Bob Hoskins, who played Mario, placed most of the blame squarely on the shoulders of the husband and wife directing team of Rocky Morton and Annabel Jankel:

[It was] the worst thing I ever did. Super Mario Brothers. It was a nightmare. It had a husband-and-wife directing, whose arrogance had been mistaken for talent. After so many weeks their own agent told them to get off the set. F**king nightmare. F**king idiots. That's the nature of the game, the whole experience was a nightmare.

With all due respect, Bob, I'm pretty sure Spielberg himself couldn't have saved that ship from sinking.
