Sony wasn't the only one unhappy with Paramount's decision this week to dump the Blu-ray next-gen DVD format in favor of Toshiba's HD DVD. Director Michael Bay now says he may not make a sequel to "Transformers" (for you high-falutin' cinemaphiles, that's a threat) if he can't be sure it'll come out in Blu-ray.
"No Transformers 2 for me!" Bay wrote on his personal website. "To deny people who have Blu-ray sucks!"
This was followed several hours later by a semi-apology. "I over-reacted," said Bay, adding even later that watching the swords-and-sweaty-chests epic "300" in HD DVD convinced him the format might be worthy of his cinematic genius.
Update: TheNew York Times, citing unnamed sources at Viacom, says Paramount's decision was not a matter of pure altruism. The studio is getting $150 million from HD DVD backers.
