It's been five long years since The X Files went off the air. (Really? That long?) And since then it's become synonymous with longevity — the bad kind. When people mention TV shows like Lost possibly not wrapping up loose ends or going on way too long, The X Files is inevitably brought up. To that end, it appears that Chris Carter & Co. are ever closer to going back into production on another movie, having already received commitments from stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson.
According to reports, Duchovny will be getting the script next week and all is nice between Carter and Fox execs after that nasty ol' lawsuit. But all this conjecture still begs the question: Do we still care what happened to Mulder and Scully? It's a series that's started 14 years ago and had nine years of network TV and a blockbuster movie to settle all its storylines, and that wasn't enough. Is two and a half butt-numbing hours in a cineplex going to fix all that? Just saying.
