
Yes, you read that right--Guild Wars has indeed been iterated upon with Factions and Nightfall, but Eye of the North will be its veritable expansion pack. It's the first that will offer content aimed solely at people who are already enfranchised, unlike the preceding stand-alone campaign packs Arenanet previously released. And now, it has a firm release date: August 31.
Eye of the North is a definite departure from Arenanet's business model, but the game will remain free to play, which is the important part. Perhaps they're shifting gears in anticipation of the 2008-slated sequel to Guild Wars? Who knows. From the looks of it, though, Eye of the North will be packed with a laundry list of expansion content. You can peruse the itemized list after the jump.
