It was the first company to offer full iPod integration in its vehicles. Now BMW of North America has announced that it is phasing in support for Apple's new iPhone, which has only barely begun to reach customers even now. The phone can be used with the 3- and 5-Series built since March, with X5s built since April and with the 6-Series beginning in September. The company claims that owners can access mobile-phone functions on vehicles equipped with BMW Assist and Bluetooth hands-free calling. Only vehicles equipped with an iPod/USB interface allow occupants to access music functions via vehicle controls.
