The Borg Cube: Working At Google Vs. Microsoft

For most outsiders thinking about working in tech, Microsoft is the corporate cubicle prison camp and Google is the laid back Web 2.0 party villa hipsters want to call home. But if a recently circulated report from one alleged former Google employee is to be believed, Google is only fit for those ready to join a Borg-like collective as an interchangeable cog.

The Just Say “No” To Google blog, allegedly run by an anonymous Microsoft employee, says that this Google breakdown has been widely circulating within the halls of Microsoft. Here’s one of the best parts:

“College kids tend to like it because it’s just like college – all of their basic needs are taken care of. In fact, even most of your personal-life can get tied up in Google benefits… A college kid can literally join Google and, like they did as freshman at university, let Google take care of everything. Of course, if Google handles everything for you, it’s hard to think about leaving because of all the ‘stuff’ you’ll need to transition and then manage for yourself.”
