According to Forbes, Wendi Deng, wife of News Corp. boss Rupert Murdoch, will move into the spotlight at MySpace China as chief of strategy. The new position reportedly includes a seat on the board of MySpace China. Deng, a native of China has been under the media microscope in recent months as the business world attempts to figure out how she fits into the News Corp. empire, and more importantly, what her role will be when Rupert is gone and his children look to take over the company.
While some might be quick to view the move critically, it's important to note that Deng was once vice president of News Corp's Asian satellite television operation, STAR and holds an MBA from Yale, and a BA in economics from California State University. As for MySpace China, the site (which is majority owned by Chinese operators) has been criticized for allowing censorship, an issue likely to become a re-occurring point of contention as Murdoch attempts to consolidate his online efforts.
