During his keynote at the recent Hollywood & Games Summit, Legendary Pictures chairman Thomas Tull talked big about the upcoming World of Warcraft film. Apparently, the game's eight million global subscribers can't alone guarantee the film's success. According to Tull, Legendary would "be screwed" if the film's appeal could not extend beyond the already-enfranchised. He isn't convinced that a game's commercial success will necessarily translate into big box office numbers for film adaptations:
Still, Tull believes that WoW "...has the right stuff to make it happen." I'm not quite convinced, but one thing that would help me to become a believer would be to cast Michael J. Anderson in a key role--maybe a gnome archmage, or a goblin engineer?
