Currently, the only tiny car produced by the Big Three is Chevrolet’s Aveo, which sells at an anemic 60,000 a year. It is manufactured in Korea. Many critics believe that high wages, benefits and taxes and heavy regulations make it impossible for small cars to be a profitable business in the U.S. “Forbes”
magazine’s Jerry Flint believes the problem is that “small” is equated with
“cheap.” He points to BMW’s Mini to show that price and volume can head north simultaneously.
