Verisign CEO Abruptly Resigns

This just in from the post-holiday shock and awe department: Verisign has lost its CEO Stratton Sclavos under a cloud of mystery and confusion. Neither Verisign or Sclavos offered any reason for the resignation. But AP offers the salient details…

“VeriSign has said it needs to restate its financial results from 2001 through the first quarter of 2006, and expects to take up to a $250 million charge, as a result of options shenanigans. The company said an internal investigation found no evidence of ‘intentional wrongdoing’ by current senior managers, including Sclavos, but released scant details Tuesday, leading some analysts to continue wondering about the extent of his involvement.”

Odd that this would come on the same day that GoDaddy hits it out of the park with a major domain name grab. Not that the events are connected in any way… just rather odd.
