You’ll either love or hate the Halo plasma-pistol styling, but Hitachi’s two-position handle and rubber grips proved comfortable even after we drove 169 screws on a charge. That’s doubly impressive when you consider that the Hitachi weighs half as much as the Bosch. But poor build quality makes this driver seem more Mario than Master Chief: after only a few screws we had to hold down the speed selector switch to keep it from popping out of gear. —Chuck Cage
WIRED Removable battery means this isn’t a “disposable” tool. Makes a good flashlight in a pinch since the built-in LED turns on and off with a switch instead of shining just when the tool’s in use. Good torque for its size.
TIRED Side-mounted trigger is hard to reach. Questionable durability.
