“Motor Trend” magazine nabbed sports-car racing legend Max
Angelelli from his Grand Am circuit schedule for an afternoon to test drive a
Porsche Cayman on the track. The Cayman, which is basically a hard-top version of the Boxster S (with a slightly bigger engine), gains greater structural rigidity because of the roof. Like the Boxster, the Cayman’s flat-head six gives it a very low center of gravity.
And its mid-mounted engine distributes weight evenly through a turn. As Angelelli points out, you can induce oversteer into a turn, but the car is heavily biased toward understeer on the exit. Never mind this jibber. Watch the man do it.
