In response to our post about ineptly hand-painted Belarusian movie posters yesterday, Mark Pritchard sent us this fantastic image of an Indian poster for Frank Miller's 300 right next to the authorized version:
Mark writes:
Does anyone know what the rationality behind these hand-painted posters is? Looking at the Belarusian posters, I think I assumed they just weren't sent authorized posters to display, but Mark's photograph shows that it's apparently the custom in some countries to paint your own poster even when you've been supplied with an authorized version. From Mark's example, it looks like the local version of the poster doubles as a listing of cinema times, which is useful, but I wonder if there's deeper reasoning than that. Does anyone have any insight?
