Review: Canon PowerShot SD1000 Digital ELPH

There’s a pleasing familiarity about the SD1000: Everything from the blocky silver case to the logical control set up is virtually identical to previous versions of the ELPH. Awesome! WIRED
Great minimalist design. Durable. Diminutive. Superb pictures. UI is incredibly easy to dive into-especially if one has any experience with previous ELPH models. Autofocus can be locked for manual use.
TIRED
Locking autofocus for manual use is irritating. Proprietary rechargeable battery costs $60 to replace. Doesn't mount as removable drive in OSX.

There's a pleasing familiarity about the SD1000: Everything from the blocky silver case to the logical control set up is virtually identical to previous versions of the ELPH. Awesome! No steep learning curve. At 4.4 ounces, it's not exactly the lightest pocket camera we've ever tested, nor is it the cheapest with a $300 price tag. But the SD 1000 more than makes up for these flaws with 7.1 megapixels, ISO 1600, an f/2.8 - 4.9-aperture range, and 3x optical zoom. There might be other pocket cameras out there with the same specs; good luck finding one that combines ease of use, sturdiness, and concealed carry into such a fluid package.
