It first appeared in Shanghai’s far-away auto show and riffs off the same design theme as the company’s
6-series: a low-slung sedan without a B pillar. Everyone’s getting into this game, including Lexus, Infiniti and, of course, Mercedes Benz. In fact, it’s the Benz CLS that’s in everyone’s crosshairs, thanks to its wild success. No doubt about it, these cars are beautiful. But the missing B-pillar compromises both head and leg room at the rear. To compensate, all of these cars have very long wheelbases, very large power plants, and very steep prices. If the Beamer actually rolls off the assembly line, expect its price to shoot north of $100,000.
