Authorities wonder now if the gunman left warnings of his impending rampage. On April 2, a separate bomb threat closed Torgersen Hall and forced an evacuation. And this afternoon, a bomb threat at the nearby University of Tennessee in Knoxville closed down several buildings, according to Wate 6, a TV news channel in Knoxville.

This is not the first time the Virginia Tech campus has been touched by violence. Last year, a gunman killed a sheriff's deputy and hospital security guard near the school.
