For all the times we write here in the DANGER ROOM about screwed-up, over-priced technology, it's a relief to hear about something that does work, particularly when it's a life-saving technology. In that vein, USA Today hasan article with some encouraging statistics about the new armored vehicles that have been deployed to Iraq.
The vehicles -- blast-deflecting, v-shaped hulls -- are designed to be more resistant to IED attacks, and from the looks of things, they're working well:
The challenge now for the military is to get enough money to buy all the vehicles it needs (the numbers now are nearly 8,000 at a cost of over $8 billion).
UPDATE: The 0-for-300 number might be true, says Michael Goldfarb over at the Worldwide Standard. But it's "misleading," too.
