Argentina's business VoIP takup rate is astonishing, with 38.5 percent of companies now using the internet for their voice calling. This is up 6.6 percent on three months ago, and 33.8 percent on three years ago, when only 4.8 percent used VoIP.
This reflects the success and proliferation of new telecommunications technology in the developing world, as well: in many places, the absence of an effective POTS system creates a demand for cellular services that doesn't exist in the well-wired west. At least, that's the traditional argument. Since Argentina's standard telephone system (Unlike some in Africa) is just fine, maybe the failure of the U.S. to embrace new technologies has more to do with the companies here which control its use.
