Senator Brownback laments that patients from the US are going overseas for adult stem cell therapies -- congestive heart failure in Bangkok, spinal cord injury in Portugal, and diabetes in Brazil -- and asks why we aren't funding the work in the United States.
The irony? Brownback has previously renegged on his support for legislation that would fund such research to cure spinal cord injury. In the closing days of 2002, he signed on as a cosponsor of the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Act, but neglected to support it in the last two Congressional sessions. If he wants to put his money where his mouth is and promote the research in the US, he can show up at the Working 2 Walk Rally on April 24 this year.
I'll be there, so I'll let you know if he shows.
