Mounting horror at the choice of AAC as audio codec for EMI's DRM-free music downloads at the iTunes store? See above how to do it in iTunes.
Alternatives: WinAMP is the best transcoding software for PC, bar none, and deals with AAC just fine.
As for Mac, I haven't found anything quite so simple, batch-friendly, and free of charge. Recommendations?
Yes, I'm pretty sure that iTunes won't let you convert AAC to MP3, though that's conceivably a DRM issue.
UPDATE: Well, stap me vitals, that's exactly what it was. Picture added.
