
People who regularly take long-distance flights may be at risk of mental disorders triggered by incessant jet lag.
In a study published in The Lancet, British researchers found that cabin crews experienced unusually frequent mental health problems, with women reporting disrupted menstrual cycles.
It's not hard to imagine that a variety of factors -- such as spending your working life in a tiny space full of irritated customers, the tedium interrupted only by health emergencies and turbulence -- could drive an airline worker crazy. However, the primary culprit appears to be hormone imbalances caused by sleep disruption.
