This amazing watch is from French watch designers Vianney Halter and Jean-François Ruchonnet. It is based on watchmaking principals which have been out of use for over 250 years. Modern watches use a very thin chain instead of a coiled mainspring. The Cabestan uses chains and a fusee (a conical winder, similar in shape to the rear cogset on your bicycle).
However it works, the watch is absolutely stunning. It's even waterproof to 30 metres, and has a "battery meter", a mechanical display of how much power is left in the watch. Sadly not available yet, and when it is I surely won't be able to afford it. More watch pr0n after the jump.
