NakamatsThe Toyko gubernatorial race appears to be heating up -- the latest candidate to throw his hat in the ring is an eccentric inventor with plans to protect Tokyo with a missile deflection device (no, not your standard Sea-Based Missile Defense that Japan is investing in). As Japan Times reports:

Yoshiro Nakamatsu, the goofy inventor popularly known as Dr. NakaMats, announced his candidacy for the Tokyo gubernatorial election Tuesday, saying that if he becomes governor, he will invent the ultimate missile shield to protect the nation's capital from enemy attacks.

Nakamatsu said he planned to invent a missile shield system that can "make missiles turn around." When asked how he planned to accomplish the feat, he replied, "I cannot give you a simple answer."

Dr. NakaMats, winner of a 2005 Ig Nobel Prize, could have a tough time, however. He's got competition from a feng shui expert, not to mention the incumbent governor.
