The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) could vote as early as next week on whether to create a new ".xxx" domain name for porn sites, according to wire reports today.
A majority of the porn industry doesn't like the idea of being sequestered in an online red light district, where the government could more easily restrict access to salacious content. Religious groups are also opposed to the measure, arguing that a .xxx name could pump up the industry to new heights.
