Linux developer and murder defendant Hans Reiser spoke in court for the first time today. Two words: "Not guilty."
Reporter Josh Davis has been watching the proceedings for Wired News. He phoned in to report that Reiser is set for jury selection on May 7th.
The 43-year-old Reiser is known in geek circles as the inventor of the ReiserFS file system. He's accused of the murder of his estranged wife, who's been missing since September. Though her body hasn't been found, in a March 9th hearing a judge ruled there was enough circumstantial evidence to hold him for trial.
Reiser's being held without bail at Alameda County's Santa Rita jail. Today he declined to waive his right to a speedy trial, forcing a trial within 45 days.
