Former Federal Communications Commission chairman Michael Powell (son of Colin), will head a U.S. advisory board to help Japanese telecom giant DoCoMo break into the American market, according to a corporate press release yesterday. BusinessWeek has more here.
As FCC chair, Powell moved to deregulate the communications industry, which led to a period of consolidation in the market. One of the more controversial changes he oversaw was a loosening of media ownership rules that prevented one company from owning a newspaper and a TV or radio station in a city and imposed other restrictions on media companies.
But Powell's stint at the FCC may be best remembered by two words: Wardrobe malfunction.
