I have no experience in any defense tech and I realize there are some very bright and experienced people who do and work on such tech. But I thought I'd chime in with some random ideas for armoring vehicles and miscellaneous topics. It is okay to laugh, because I will not be able to hear it.
1. Layers of mail. Kind of like chain mail, except layers of them. Perhaps on the bottom of the vehicle to guard against bombs.
2. Layers of plates. Kind of like laying bricks, expect it is on the bottom of a vehicle and the bricks are hard plates.
3. Layers of tires/sandbags.
Also, I have no idea how the physics would work, but:
To disable bombs, why not generate a magnetic/enery burst? Hopefully, to fry the bomb's circuits (assuming it uses some electronics).
Maybe just have a microwave dish that scans over an area. I realize that would probably take up a lot of energy.
Maybe this is also impractical (money), but paint all the roads with a special color/chemical. That way it would be somewhat easier to detect man-made holes. I suppose this could be done with computers though.
