Everybody at *Wired *was having Friday evening drinks, but I sat by myself in a poorly-lit room thinking about vampires. Because I only drink . . . blood. That's why I'm so frakkin' psyched about girly network Lifetime's new TV series Blood Ties, which is a love triangle tale that involves a cop, a private eye, and a 450-year-old vampire romance novelist. The blood-sucking romance novelist is a guy, and the private eye is a chick. I love the genderbendy idea of a tough chick falling for a romantic old monster. Show producer Peter Mohan told SciFi Wire:

Both men see how strong the competition is. [Cop] Mike sees that this is a guy who's never going to get old,
never going to not be beautiful and is stronger than he is and fasterthan he is. On the other end, [vampire] Henry realizes that Mike is agood-looking guy who is a human. He's someone Vicki could have a familywith and grow old with and have that kind of a real relationship. Andfor Vicki with Henry, however attractive he is, she doesn't, in someways, see him as a person to really give herself over to, because he'sthis unnatural creature in a way. And there's going to be a differentwoman in his bed every night.

Wow, Vicki gets both her romance-writing vampire and a different woman in bed with them every night? Sign me up! Starting March 11, Lifetime will broadcast 13 episodes, with an option to pick up 9 more to make a full 22-episode season. The series is based on Tanya Huff's 5-novel series known as The Blood Books.
