Electric car manufacturer ZAP will take on Tesla Motors with a high-performance electric vehicle based on a Lotus Engineering design.
ZAP is using the Lotus aluminum APX concept car as the platform for a ridiculous 644-horsepower crossover vehicle. By comparison, Tesla's EV has "only" 248 horsepower. The ZAP car will have in-hub electric motors that will provide all wheel drive, and the company claims that the car can go 155 mph.
The vehicle will have a 350-mile range and an auxiliary battery pack to extend the range, and can be recharged in 10 minutes. I can't help but view some of these claims with trepidation give ZAP's past promises-to-deliverables ratio.
