During this week's episode of "Living With Ed," a show on Home and Garden TV about the environmental lifestyle of actor Ed Begley Jr., Ed toured some of Jay Leno's incredible collection of cars.
The Tonight Show host is well known for his love of autos, and he's put many of the contemporary and classic cars on his website, which truly has something to offer everyone. Jay gave Ed a spin around in his 
Electric Car, a two-seat carriage that was built for women who didn't want to get dirty from the oil of petroleum cars. This was a good reminder that we've been pursuing -- and achieving -- electric cars since almost the dawn of the automobile.
Leno and GM also teamed up to build the "EcoJet," a carbon fiber car powered by a jet engine that uses biodiesel fuel. It must be nice to be able to call GM and ask them for help in designing a new vehicle.
Although petroleum dominates the personal transportation industry, there have always been viable alternatives in terms of power and fuel, including steam, electricity, and peanut oil. While gasoline powered cars aren't going away anytime soon, they may not be THE standard for future generations as one of the technologies that was first pursued 100 years ago could be the replacement.
