A shipping error, viral marketing, or bullshit? Some Apple users who returned keyboards for repair were sent replacements instead, according to "sources": new boards featuring an iPod dock. ThinkSecret reports it as a gaffe, while the chaps at Gizmodo suspect "marketing stunt!"
Me, I think it's hogwash. The story comes from anonymous sources who, despite not actually being in possession of such keyboards, are perfectly able to "suspect" Apple has somehow pressured recipients into signing non-disclosure agreements. But no reason is given as to why anyone who received the keyboards would sign an NDA, or even return them at all. Sign this NDA or ... we'll cancel your AppleCare contract? No, I don't think so.
If true, however, Apple might hit the market before third-party competitors do — just such a peripheral was announced months ago by Razer, but hasn't yet surfaced.
