At its most primal, religion arises in response to Man's desire for immortality. Only when science matches this offer will religion in its current forms disappear. Thus, the New Atheists would do well to abandon negative confrontationalism, a strategy which earned Texas atheist Madelyn Murry O'Hare the sobriquette, "The Most Hated Woman in America," a generation ago. A more constructive approach would be to shift the focus of discussion to the philosophical, social, and moral implications of radical life extension as anticipated in the next 50 or so years by scientific theorists, such as Ray Kurzweil and Aubrey de Grey.
