TRW Automotive Safety Systems has created a driver's airbag that remains stationary within the steering column. This increases the effectiveness of the airbag in vehicles that have windshields with extreme angles. TRW is also designing custom airbag cushions to match the shape of vehicle interiors and reduce injuries.

Automotive engineering company Ricardo believes that making a car responsive to steering will enhance safety. The company's Torque Vectoring technology was displayed for the first time on a prototype vehicle.

The technology accelerates the transfer of torque to the wheels, reducing the lag to 5 hundredths of a second or less. This keeps the vehicle on the driver's intended path, enabling them to navigate more efficiently and avoid collisions.

Each year more than 40,000 people die on American roads. We shouldn't accept these fatalities as an inherent risk of the road and should encourage the adoption of new technologies.
