I was reading Mashable today, and I came across Pete Cashmore's post about a new social network devoted to fashion called ShareYourLook:
It's a classic "-ster", a niche social site, the niche being fashion hounds. There are plenty of other social fashion sites out there for shoppers, social networkers, and trendspotters, and they all have some traits in common. Mostly, they concentrate on shopping, or planning for shopping, or some sort of shopping component. If there were a Venn diagram, it would show a substantial intersection in the center.
I got curious about who's ruling the field, so I plugged five of my favorites into Alexaholic.
Kind of a mess. ThisNext.com was killing everyone for a while, but now it appears as though TeamSugar and StyleHive have taken over. I'm not really in a position to say which of these sites is the best (I wear the same thing almost every day, much to my lady's dismay) but I'm guessing that the eventual winners will succeed on features and usability. Unless, like MySpace, those things don't matter.
Which social fashion sites do you use? Is there a shopping component built in? Do you actually use it to find and buy new clothes and accessories?
