There are many ways to arrive – a star on the walk of fame, the first time your total assets clear $1
million – but none is as wonderful as this benchmark. When a toilet-themed accessory inspired by your most popular product finds its way into SkyMall.
SkyMall, if you haven't flown lately, is an incredible catalog of nothing but useless crap from people like Hammacher Schlemmer and Sharper Image. I was flying home on Saturday when I saw the iCarta Stereo Dock smack in the middle of the catalog. The iCarta got a bunch of attention back in August as the most ridiculous iPod accessory ever – it's a toilet paper roll holder that's also a stereo with iPod dock, so you never have to stop listening to music EVER.
SkyMall amps up the marketing pitch to dizzying volumes:
See, it just includes a bath tissue holder! It's actually primarily a stereo system! You've got to hand it to the SkyMall geniuses. They've got a sixth sense for this. So, does anyone have an iCarta? How's it working these days? And, more importantly, has anyone ever bought something more ridiculous than this at 30,000 feet?
