While some critics are a bit skeptical, a New York doctor is touting his plans to perform the first uterus transplant in the U.S. (It would also apparently be the second in the world: A previous transplant in Saudi Arabia reportedly failed.)
The New York Daily News has the story.
The uterus would come from a live donor and go to someone who is missing a uterus due to a birth defect or surgery.
At first glance, it sounds like a risky and expensive procedure that isn't medically necessary, puts two people under the knife, and results in something you can get in other ways -- a child.
