On the 17th, we announced a WiredGameBlog giveaway contest for:

...a genuine authentic Gears of War faceplate and skin for your Xbox 360. If you're interested in owning this, email me with a new verb that describes the act of chainsawing an opponent in half at close range.We desperately need a term for this to enhance our Xbox Live trashtalking during Gears of War sessions. "Dude, I just chainsaw-bayoneted you!" is a mouthful. And standard gamer terms--say, gib or frag--just don't capture it. Medical terms such as "gut" or "eviscerate" are better, but I think we need a new word for this new form of foe humiliation. So drop the controller for a sec and get linguistic. Bonus points if you explain the etymology.

We've received well over a hundred entries, each more disgustingly creative than the last. It'll take a few days for me to sort through all of these, and I aim to single out 15 or 20 finalists before we pick a winner.

However, I can definitively declare our hands-down no-contest last place loser in the coinage contest. That goes to Epic Games. I asked Microsoft PR to please contact the developers behind Gears of War and ask them what they call it when they score a humiliating close-range chainsaw-bayonet disemboweling. Word came back that they refer to it as "chainsawing". Um...LAME! DULL! UNACCEPTABLE!
