Researchers at two British Columbia schools are beginning clinical trials on a new generation of vibrators designed specifically for people with spinal cord injuries.

The gadgets are more powerful than regular vibrators, and researchers say that because most people retain some below-the-waist sensation even after a spinal cord injury, the devices will be able to stimulate "reflex arousal."

Sex does not stop being a priority:

A study published by Kim Anderson of theReeve-Irvine Center at the University of California-Irvine shows theimportance of sexuality to individuals with spinal cord injuries. Inthe survey, paraplegics ranked regaining sexual function as their toppriority while quadriplegics ranked it second only to regaining arm andhand function.

“Sexual health is just as important an issue for people with spinalcord injuries as it is with anyone else. The fact that there may becomplications that need to be addressed makes it all the moreimportant,” said Stephanie Cadieux of the BC Paraplegics Association.
