Level 5, the RPG developer best known for handling Dragon Quest VIII for Square Enix and games like Dark Cloud and Rogue Galaxy for Sony, have announced a DS game that will blend gorgeous original animated stories with puzzle-solving.
Called Professor Layton and the Mysterious Town, the game will be developed in cooperation with Akira Tago, a Chiba University professor who has authored a series of logic-puzzle books called "Brain Exercise."
What's gotten me hooked already is the beautiful art design, done in a throwback Western Triplets-of-Belleville style. Apparently there will be quite a bit of original animation sequences, with voiceovers by Yo Oizumi (Professor Layton) and Maki Horikita (Luke, the young boy he befriends).
This will be Level 5's first self-published game. It'll hit Japan on February 15.
