A stunning race car prototype is both fast and clean, according to its engineers. Caparo Vehicle Technology says the T1 weighs just over 1,000 pounds, packs 480 horsepower, and can go from 0-62 mph in 2.5 seconds, according toCarKeys.
The company says the lighter carbon composite chassis and design principals can also be used in passenger cars to greatly enhance fuel economy.
While carbon composites work well in race cars that can afford their higher price, meeting crash test safety regulations may be an even tougher challenge. Auto engineers should be able to come up with stylish vehicles that don't compromise safety. Even if the price is a bit steeper, combining stellar off-the-line performance with greater mpg could entice a new segment of the population to consider their emissions footprint (or is it tread?).
