My Tuesday post on marijuana arrests has garnered a record number of comments: 90 and counting. Clearly this is a topic Bodyhack readers are passionate about.

Many of the comments describe theories as to why marijuana remains illegal when it seems to be less harmful than, say, alcohol or heroin. One theory that was new to me is that lobbying from the cotton industry keeps pot illegal thus preventing competition from hemp.

This all started back in the late 30's when the hemp industry made a machine to harvest hemp in high volume, which threatened the fabric industry run by DuPont (rayon, nylon), financed by Mellon Bank ( sole financier was William Randolph Hearst). The Marijuana Tax Act passed by Congress in '37 was orchestrated by Henry J. Aslinger of the Senate subcommittee for illegal drugs or whatever it was called. What most don't know is Aslinger was married to Mellon's daughter at the time. Money Money Money... Its all about the money boys!
