Francois Jaffre, 104, and Rene Riffaud, 107, who served in the French Army, have been "rediscovered" by a French bureaucracy that lost track of them over the years. This brings the number of living French veterans to seven. Britain claims 13 vets, Germany thinks there are "around five," the Turks say all of theirs have died and the United States counts at least eight. It's safe to say that, at the rate they're dying, soon there will be none: In 1995, France had 4,000 living World War I vets on the rolls.
