The Hummer may be popular in some circles as the ultimate destroyer-of-planets SUV but it is a pariah among rock musicians, who almost universally refuse to sell their music for use in Hummer commercials. For a hardscrabble indie band making virtually nothing, walking away from a minimum royalty check of $50,000 represents a pretty strong statement of principle. But they see the Hummer (rightly) as a gas-guzzling despoiler of the environment and pretty much the antithesis of everything they stand for. It's only rock 'n' roll, but we like it.
