Fixed-line broadband, your days are numbered. Even as the world awaits the arrival of widespread WiMAX networks, cellular broadband is gaining serious ground with a host of new gear to get your PC's online without getting your local phone company or cable provider involved.

Kyocera's new KR-1 Mobile Router works like any other wireless broadband router, except that it doesn't rely on a landline modem for its internet connection. If you've got EV-DO service and an EV-DO PC Card, just slot your card into the KR-1 and set up your wireless network. That's huge for people who do business on the road, but it's also cool for anybody who wants a little freedom to roam but doesn't want to give up the convenience of their home Wi-Fi network. Like most Wi-Fi routers, the KR-1 supports 802.11b and 802.11g, and offers WPA and WEP security. It ain't exactly cheap at $250 after a $50 mail-in rebate, but it's a small price to pay to move your office to the beach.
