Toyota looked to Europe to revamp its sub-compact line in the United States. Say goodbye (goodbye) to the Echo (echo) and hello to the 2007 Yaris.

The three-door vehicle made its American debut at the SEMA show and is the same width but seven inches longer than the Mini Cooper. The first Yaris (1999) was a big seller in Europe, so the company is bringing it to the United States as a youth-oriented car, complete with MP3 capability and mini-port jack.

Although not EPA rated yet, Toyota is guessing the car will get around 40 mpg on the highway. I'm curious if young Americans will go for the name that mimics a European city. Perhaps the kids here would prefer Yamsterdam, Yublin or even Yunich?
